GENERAL PRESENTATION

Quality and safety are daily concerns for food industry and healthcare professionnals.
That's why the University of science and technology of Lille and the Institut Pasteur de Lille (IPL) have joined forces to create this specialised course.

This is a one-year course, which can be attended for students after 2 years of university training. (cf university pathway in France).

The studies take place in Villeneuve d'Ascq, at the CERTIA (Institut Pasteur de Lille), and at the University of sciences (IUT 'A'). Courses are given by teachers and researchers-teachers of the USTL, and professionals (IPL and industry staff).

There are two options:

- Safety and Quality in food supply (SQAL).

- Safety and Quality in medical care management (SQPS).

The program is organized in different Teaching Units, which are subdivided in several modules. Graduation is completed to the average of 10/20, and at least 8/20 in each teaching unit.

This course combines theory as well as two projects and one training period ( 14 weeks either in France or abroad), enabling you to enter professional life, for example:

For the food industry:
Food industry, food supply, catering, sanitary services, laboratories...

For healthcare:
Hospitals, clinics, elderly homes, sanitary services, consulting...

European Prospect

The Teaching Units are validated by the European Credits Transfer System (ECTS). One semester is validated by 30 ECTS and one year by 60 ECTS, which allows the mobility of students within the European Union.

The university works in cooperation with 10 european countries : there are 24 partner universities in the field of dietetics and nutrition. Therefore it is possible for students to carry out with their training period in one of these universities.

Moreover, in the course several European modules are offered, which allow students to improve their practice of foreign languages, and encourage them to work in European Union countries.

The first of these European modules is "the effect of consumer perception on new food product development" (M1), and it was set up in 2003.

The second european module is "Food safety risk assessment : scientist and consumer" (M2). It is currently under development, and will be ready in 2004.

The third module is planned to be ready in a short term. Its title is "management of care waste", and concerns the medical care management option.
